Operation Dudula's Participation in South Africa’s 2024 General Elections
Operation Dudula's Participation in South Africa’s 2024 General Elections
Operation Dudula is not just a community movement — we are a political force committed to ensuring South Africans come first in their own country.
In 2023, Operation Dudula officially registered as a political party with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa to contest in the 2024 general elections. This step marked a historic moment for the movement, transforming from a civic organization into a political party ready to represent the will of South Africans in Parliament.
What Happened During the 2024 Elections:
Registration as a Political Party:
Operation Dudula was formally registered with the IEC in 2023, preparing to contest the elections across the country.
Candidate List Submission Issue:
Due to administrative challenges, Operation Dudula missed the IEC’s national candidate list submission deadline in March 2024. This meant our party was disqualified from appearing on the national ballot.
Provincial Ballots:
Despite the national list disqualification, Operation Dudula successfully contested the elections in provincial legislatures in select provinces, including:
Gauteng
Western Cape
Eastern Cape
Election Results:
While our presence on provincial ballots was limited, this marked our first official step in participating through democratic structures. Although we did not secure parliamentary seats, it showed South Africans that Operation Dudula is serious about governance and not just activism on the streets.
Lessons Learned:
The experience highlighted the importance of early preparation, strong structures, and national-level coordination.
We acknowledge the administrative oversight and are committed to doing better in future elections.
Moving Forward
Operation Dudula remains committed to participating in future elections, growing our national support base, and ensuring that South African interests come first. We will not only continue our activism but also strengthen our political structures to represent the voice of the people in government.
